The Day Dream Mine

Mining was the reason that Silverton sprang up in the first place, and its still possible to experience what life was like for men working in its heyday.

The Day Dream Mine is located northwest of Silverton and about 20 kilometres outside of Broken Hill.
Established in 1882, the mine attracted a sizeable settlement which, while short-lived, boasted 500-odd residents at its peak, as well as the district's first smelters.

While the settlement gave ground to Silverton and then Broken Hill, mining continued up until 1983.

These days, visitors are invited to walk into the mine - and history.
Tours take about an hour, and sturdy shoes are recommended. Bookings can be made at the Broken Hill Visitors' Centre or you can simply turn up between 10am and 3.30pm any day of the week.

Admission costs $12.10 for adults, $11 for students, pensioners and seniors, and $5.50 for children. A family concession is also available.
Snacks, cold drinks and souvenirs are all on sale onsite.
