He was one of the first artists to set up shop in Silverton when he established the Horizon Gallery in 1987. Today, the gallery holds work from a number of artists including Silverton residents Albert and Bronwen Standley-Woodroffe. Bronwen was raised on a farm, where she was introduced to the bush that shaped her perceptions. She spent 16 years in Adelaide where she completed a number of art courses before moving to Silverton. To produce her signature pastel landscapes, Bronwen draws inspiration from the Australian Landscape, visiting many locations around the outback each year. Her work has been sold into company and private collections, and work from the Horizon Gallery is shipped all over the world. Albert is even planning an extension of the gallery as he's run out of space on the walls; this despite the establishment of a second Horizon Gallery in nearby Broken Hill. Albert decided to set up twin galleries after observing the model in Santa Fe. The Horizon Gallery includes a wide range of artwork, including painting, ceramics, fabrics, glass, pottery and woodwork. The artists on show include Albert and Bronwen, Clark Barrett, Warwick Fuller, James Evan-Jones, John Kammerman, Lyndsay Womersley, Alan Williams, Maggie B and Geoff Wefferson, who have been exhibiting together for over a decade. The Gallery has a longstanding relationship with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, having curated exhibitions in their honour since 1988, raising thousands of dollars for the life-saving organisation in the process. The Horizon Gallery is open from 9am until 5pm seven days a week. It is closed only on Christmas Day. |
